Course description (from The Private Course Guide - Daniel Wexler):

Essex County Club carved its place in American golf history early and often, serving as home to both the U.S. Women’s Amateur champion Curtis sisters and 1897 U.S. Open winner Joe Lloyd. Rebuilt by Donald Ross in 1910 (during a stint as the club’s professional) and again in 1927, it remains today a varied, hilly, fascinatingly quirky track complete with chocolate drop mounding, native grasses and all the shapes and sizes of old-fashioned bunkering. Surely, the most eye catching hole is the 623-yard 3rd, one not substantially lengthened from Ross’s day (though it was once listed as a par 6) and played to what is generally believed to be the oldest continuous use green in the United States. In a region loaded with old-fashioned classics, few are more vintage than this. (Golf Digest #91 America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses, Golfweek's #49, Top 100 Classic Courses)

Charity: The Outpost Foundation's primary purpose is to promote awareness and raise financial support for worthwhile charitable and educational causes in the United States through golf events and related activities.  Funds raised will be contributed to an annual scholarship program to benefit our educational mission for need-based students. These annual scholarships will provide college tuition assistance to deserving students involved in the game of golf.

We thank you in advance for your generosity. The Outpost Foundation is very pleased to announce the first class of Outpost Scholarship recipients. These five young men and women are all remarkable in their own right and we are honored that they will be representing us as they continue their educations this fall.  None of this would be possible without your support.
